Project:  OREGON CORNERS MASTER PLAN Intersection of Peekskill Hollow Road and Oscawana Road (February 2009)

There is a new proposal for an Oregon Corners Master Plan sponsored by a Putnam County Grant through their Planning Dept.

A "Vision Plan" was created with a grant from Putnam County Planning Dept. as a starting point for discussion on creating an overall plan for auto traffic, pedestrian movement and parking. It includes narrowing the traffic lanes, creating parallel parking on the street with shared parking areas behind stores on both Oscawana Lake Road and pedestrian walkways along the Oscawana and Peekskill Hollow Brooks to connect to all businesses and waterways.

• There are sidewalks on both sides of each street, pedestrian crossings and rumble strips to slow traffic to below 30 miles per hour.
• The Hertzel garage will no longer exist, a building for retail or other commercial use will remain on the site.
• Parking in front of the corner deli, hardware store and liquor store will be removed.

The County will hold a public meeting to discuss the proposal with residents, sometime in April 2009, date to be announced. Reaction to the proposal from the Town Board was positive.
